Personality: Joanna is a very quiet girl when you first meet her.  Though she doesn’t entirely care what people think of her, she still likes to test the water before she puts herself out there.  Perhaps it’s just out of self preservation or perhaps she cares more than she ever wants to realize.  School comes easy to her and she’s made A’s and B’s since elementary school.  The one time she got a “D” in Spanish, people had to talk her out of a major depression.  She has high expectations for herself and she doesn’t want anybody to interfere with that.  She’s also fiercely independent and can’t ever date a guy that wants to spend every waking moment together.  She feels that if that’s the case, neither person can really grow and enrich themselves properly.  Plus, she feels like she won’t meet the “right one” because she’s so young.  Why waste all of her time on something that won’t work out in the end?  This philosophy of course stems from a broken heart she got from a guy she dated sophomore year.  She tries to pretend like she’s over him, but she really isn’t and it keeps her from getting close to any new guys.  He hit her and after the third time it happened, she had to break up with him so even if she misses him, she knew it was the right thing.  Jo’s also got a passion for swimming.  She feels like it teaches her discipline and there’s some buzz that in the next few years, or at the very least by the time she graduates college, Jo could make the Olympic swim team.  She’s witty, fun and an all around nice person to hang out with when she has the time.

Family: Joanna grew up in a pretty normal family.  Her father worked in construction and her mother was a teacher.  She has one older brother, Kyle, who just left about a year ago to study at Harvard.  She’s proud of him and she misses him since they were really close.  Her younger sister Mary is only a freshman.  She’s the exact opposite of Joanna; popular, into makeup and pretty much all about boys.  They don’t spend much time together for obvious reasons and do more fighting over the bathroom than laughing.  Her family has lived on the island her whole life and nobody really dreams of leaving since her grandparents, aunts, uncles and pretty much every living relative are here too. 

Other little facts:  She’s a vegetarian and rarely cheats.  Jo loves her job because she gets to meet people who are healthy minded like herself.  She finds that not eating meat helps keeps her system clean and stay healthier.  She’s left handed and bounces from hobby to hobby.  Her current interest lays in photography but who knows how long that will last.
