Electives for Senior & Junior Students to choose from. There can be no more than twenty students per elective class, as stated in the Sierra Country Education Guidelines.

Studio Art III
Period 5 & 8
Studio 1

This is an advanced studio workshop in fine art and design. Students will learn techniques in drawing and painting with an emphasis on individual expression.

Concert Choir
Period 5
Choral Room 2
 
The Concert Choir is the largest performing choral ensemble of the high school. Students progress through a curriculum that includes basics of proper vocal technique, tone production, sight singing, and music literacy while preparing music of a wide variety of styles for performances. Students also learn the basics of playing a keyboard or piano. The instructional program requires students to participate in both the daily full rehearsals and smaller lesson groups which are scheduled periodically on a rotating basis. Attendance is mandatory at specified concerts, as well as dress rehearsals. There are also a number of additional performance opportunities in the community and the region.
 
Physical Education

The physical education program is designed to empower all students. It is based on physical activities in which every student is challenged and given the opportunity to be successful.

This course focuses on strengthening the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. There is a strong emphasis on advanced grammatical structures and usage, literary and cultural reading selections, vocabulary acquisition, and composition writing.

In woodshop each student has the opportunity to learn the safe and effective use of woodworking equipment, tools and materials while completing specific projects. Students gain skills in the proper use and care of the equipment , use of construction plans and measurements , effective use of workspace and time , planning and problem solving , communication and working with peers, following verbal and written instructions

Home Economics

The USDA Food Pyramid provides the theme for our food preparation, with a thorough study of each food group. Recipes are chosen from classic and current sources, provided by well known names in the culinary field. Family favorites are prepared and shared as we come to appreciate America’s melting pot.

Creative Writing
Period 5 &  7

This course is for students who are interested in creative writing and who want to improve their writing skills. Students will be given the opportunity to publish their work in school and community publications. Students will analyze various creative writing techniques and study different writers and their styles. The course will inspire creativity, encourage revision, and promote individual style in a workshop setting. At the end of each semester, the students will have produced a portfolio that could be submitted to literary reviews and magazines.
 
Journalism
Period 8

This course is for students who are interested in journalism and who want to improve and enhance their writing skills. Students will read, review and evaluate student and professional yearbooks, newspapers, news magazines and literary magazines as part of their regular course assignments.

Web Design
Period 8
Comp Lab 1

This course will address more sophisticated topics such as using and writing javascripts, creating forms, creating style sheets, Flash programming, and Flash applications. Students will complete a variety of assigned projects.

Theatre Arts III
Period 7 & 8
TA1 & TA3
 
The third year of Theater Arts continues to enhance student knowledge of the performing arts. Students will be able to pursue independent projects in theater under teacher supervision and guidance. Theater Arts III students are expected to provide mentoring for first and second-year students. Independent study projects will be assigned and leadership positions in school productions are required.
