-- ABOUT THE BAY --

Many could say that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo
would barely recognize the small western island he and his fleet nearly
found themselves shipwrecked on nearly 500 hundred years ago today. Though
the Island whose only township bares the name of it's founder (Cabrillo Bay)
remains relatively unspoiled from the years of development, the last forty
years has seen it grow from a tiny island get away to the thriving community
it is now.

Most of the residents of Cabrillo Bay have
lived here all of their lives and have helped to preserve the laid back
atmosphere that makes it so loved by everyone who has been lucky enough to
grace it's pristine beaches.
No matter where you live on the island you wake to the smell of salty air
and the distant or nearby sounds of waves crashing on the shore.
Many of the town's attractions are only a short drive away, or as you'll
soon discover, many of the local's do away with the car ride and take to the
cycle path instead.
The island's warm tropical climate makes it a perfect place for the crops of
Bananas and Mangos that grow well away from the township itself and yet, on
a humid day there is a sweetness in the air that invades your senses
and leaves you craving a fruit smoothie or salad from one of the local
restaurants or cafe's.
Though companies have long been trying to turn
one half of the island into a multi-million dollar resort, the locals have
managed to thwart their advances. Still, Cabrillo Bay does host several bed
and Breakfasts, as well as a Resort style hotel that offers pricey yet
luxurious rooms for those just wanting to enjoy the bay for a weekend.
For the most part though, Cabrillo Bay is a
place for those who just want to get away from the fast pace and pollution
in it's neighboring major cities, San Francisco and Los Angeles. For those
who want to catch a wave as the sun rises or sip a cocktail as the sun sets.
